Grit City Podcast 102: Polka Dot Powerhouse

Episode 102: Polka Dot Powerhouse

The interview with the Polka Dot Powerhouse ladies covered a lot of great information and was split into two podcasts. Tune in next week for the conclusion to this amazing interview!

This week the guys sit down with members of the Polka Dot Powerhouse sisterhood, Tacoma and Bremerton Chapters. The Polka Dot Powerhouse is a connection company that offers its members the ability to connect with “the world’s most positive, most action-forward, most amazing, top 10% doer business women.” There are two types of membership offered, Business Membership and Diamond Membership. Each offers great resources to help each member grow, like an active online community and online and in-person monthly meetings. The Tacoma chapter launched in November 2015 and meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Famous Dave’s by 72nd Street in Tacoma. The Bremerton Chapter meets the third Monday of the month at Cloverleaf Bar and Grill. The meeting starts at 5:30 pm and goes for two hours. They encourage people to attend 30 minutes beforehand to mingle with the other members. Each meeting has a presenter that offers others ways to improve their personal and professional lives. Those interested in joining can find more information on pricing and the benefits of joining a local chapter here.

The show kicks off with conversation about the main Polka Dot Powerhouse, getting started in 3 years ago, the first chapter in Washington starting last year and shortly after they opened, the Bremerton chapter opening. They also discuss what Polka Dot Powerhouse offers to its members, and the benefits it brings, which includes the focus on building relationships and the belief of community over competition. This allows women from the same industry to join, for example they have multiple real-estate members and personal trainers in the group.

Talk then turns to what the ladies do for work, both doing photography, with one specializing in drone and real estate photography. They also discuss what days they meet on, the location, and explain that the first meeting is free for those that are interested. They then dive into the blizzard hat and World of Warcraft.

The show winds down with conversation of how each lady met their husbands, one that met through playing World of Warcraft online and the other that went to high school with her husband though they didn’t actually meet until a few years later through a friend . They also talk about the non-profit Village Keepers Tacoma, ran by another member of Polka Dot Powerhouse that joins the guys on the next half of the interview (tune in next week for the conclusion!).

The show ends with conversation about growth opportunities for Polka Dot Powerhouse chapters in Washington that includes expanding to offer morning or afternoon meetings and opening a new chapter around Olympia and possibly Port Townsend. They finish out talking about the accountability factor that comes with being a member, their support from the community, and ways they could expand in the community including attending Million Cups of Coffee.

Thank you to the Polka Dot Powerhouse ladies that joined the guys to give listeners a look into what the sisterhood is and the benefits of joining!

Tune in next week for the conclusion to this interview!!
