This time on The Grit City Podcast, the guys sit down with Kurt Fichtner from Tacoma Fight Shop. Tacoma Fight Shop is owned and operated by Kurt and his wife and carries any and all martial arts and boxing apparel and equipment. They are highly rated for amazing customer service and providing brands not carried by other stores in the area. A shopper on yelp posted: “The prices are fair. FYI not many stores carry the brands they do for MMA and martial arts training in general. Still they don't take advantage of customers in that respect. So if your in need of high quality gym shorts or gear to train in. Definitely check them out. The store is Family owned and the husband and wife are instructors as well. Great family environment and very skilled at what they do.” Tacoma Fight Shop is located at 2200 109th St S in Tacoma.
The show kicks off with Kurt talking about growing up in Tacoma and the Key Peninsula and how he got into Martial Arts at the age of 10. Scott talks about Salt Lake having a well-established MMA community there and they also discuss the great fighters that have come out of the PNW area. Talk then turns to how Kurt and his wife expanding from just providing MMA training into a full-fledged store that provides MMA and boxing supplies.
19:00 - Kurt talks about opening Tacoma Fight Shop in 2010 and the importance of them selling high quality brands and he and his family test out the brands before they sell them. They then dive into discussions about people’s service pets, including chickens and ducks, and the importance for Kurt and his wife to give back to the community and the local fighters that they sponsor.
28:36 – chat goes to the local and not so local places to train in Tacoma, including South Sounds Martial Arts. Kurt talks about his training place of choice and the growing trend for garage gyms where people that love the art train from their house. Kurt also discusses the pros and cons of owning a gym and the different areas of martial arts his wife is trained in.
