GCP 34: Tacoma History with Steve Dunkelberger
On this podcast they chat about the man behind the slogan “Tacoma, The City of Destiny”, George Francis Train. An orphan at age 4 from Boston, George Francis Train was a trust fund baby that built himself up as part Indiana Jones, part Sir Richard Branson, part Howard Hughes a man of the 1850’s and 60’s. One small note is he was somewhat a germaphobe, and instead of shaking hands with other people he would shake his own hand, telling people that is how Chinese people greeted each other. A very interesting character that helped in making Tacoma what it is today.
Later in the show they discuss the Eye of the Totem movie and the plans for bringing it back to life, sharing it with more people interested in Tacoma history. Also a short discussion of blimps turns into a debate on its cabin and the capability to walk around inside, listener input on this discussion is welcome!
The also discuss the next podcast and the plan to talk about the Seattle/Tacoma Rally at the Tacoma speedway where they had the trains’ crash into each other. Stay tuned for the next Steve Dunkelberger podcast coming soon!
