GCP 67: Feed 253
Episode 67: Feed253
On this episode Heidi from Feed253 joins Scott and Brogan for her second visit on the podcast. Feed253 is a local non-profit that runs a Thanksgiving food drive. The show starts off discussing what they raised last year. Their goal was $1,500 and they ended up collecting $4,100. From that, they were able to donate 5,000 pounds of food. This year their goal on the GoFundMe page is $4,100. Secretly, Heidi is hoping for $5,000, and it looks like they’re well on the way to reaching that goal, as of 11/09, GoFundMe is now up to $3,380.
Talks then turns to how Feed253 got started. After being laid off, Heidi, already involved with volunteering, collected donations from staff around the office and talked to local meat department managers at local grocery stores for great deals on turkeys to donate. From there, they just kept going and building it bigger each year. This year being the 7th year of operations.

Conversation then goes to continuing the donation momentum after Thanksgiving Donations are finished. Other events that they have done throughout the year include a hygiene drive and a hat and scarf drive. They are also working on connecting with Tacoma Food Not Bombs, a company that serves food once a week in downtown Tacoma, and The Guadalupe House, which they partnered with in 2014 and provided them with all of their Thanksgiving supplies.
Next they chat about businesses Feed253 has get involved with and events they’ve hosted to raise funds for the drive. Businesses include The Office, where they do Trivia Night and Treos, a spot where people in the community can make donations. For those wanting to attend their upcoming events, watch their Facebook page!
The show winds down discussing how people can get involved to help. The easiest way is to through GoFundMe. Another event coming up is the Hunger Awareness Day drive at the Procter Farmers Market on November 21st. That is the day Feed253 will be dropping off their donations to the facilities they support, so people can also donate produce and other fresh materials.
The show ends discussing ways to follow Feed253. Find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and their GoFundMe page. Listeners can also donate at the upcoming 3rd Thursday Comedy Showcase at The Acme Tavern on November 19th.
Thanks Heidi for joining Scott and Brogan on the podcast to fill us in on what’s going on at Feed253. Good luck on reaching your goal!!
