We cover everything from lifestyle and small businesses to events, musicians, bands and interesting characters we find along the way.  Things that we feel personify the meaning of "Grit": Fortitude, Perseverance, Strength of Character, Determination. Tenacity, Resolve, etc.

Grit City Podcast 95: Death*Star

Episode 95: Death*Star

This episode is the 5th and final in this year's Norwescon series. The guys sit down with two of the members from the Hip-Hop Nerdcore band, Death*Star. Death*Star is from Kirkland and is made up of three members: MC-3PO, C0splay, and Bill Beats. 2016 was their 6th year performing at the con. In addition to Norwescon, they have also performed at Emerald City Comic Con and numerous places in the Seattle Area. On December 31st, 2015, they released their EP “Disk Space”. The show kicks off with C0splay chatting about Death*Stars popularity at the con, this year being their 6th consecutive year at the con. They note the celebration of one of the GCP guys’ 21st year there, then talk about what defines Death*Star, C0splay’s coming out as a nerd and what drew them to the con.

Conversation then turns to Death*Star’s performances outside of the con, including performing at Kracklefest during Emerald City Comic con, a benefit show for Autism and local bars in Seattle. They also discuss what video games they are fans of and ones they play including Fallout 4 and The Banner Saga. They then dive into how the guys first met and formed the band.

At the half way point they take a plunge into politics, post apocalypse, and what it would be like as the band performing in the cantina in a Mad Max type metapoclypse. C0splay also talks about being on another podcast, the guys share their love for Cotton Mouth Candy, and what each of them love about Norwescon.

The show winds down discussing the tricks to drinking smartly at the con, the difference between Norwescon, Emerald City, Pax, and the other festivals they go to. C0splay also talks about doing a panel at Pax and the benefits to having a pass to Pax, which saves the hassle of trying to buy tickets to it.
