We host from "The Grit City", (located in the beautiful Pacific NorthwestTacoma, Washington.  

We cover everything from lifestyle and small businesses to events, musicians, bands and interesting characters we find along the way.  Things that we feel personify the meaning of "Grit": Fortitude, Perseverance, Strength of Character, Determination. Tenacity, Resolve, etc.

Episode 99: Forest Beutel

On this episode, the guys sit down with local Tacoma musician, Forest Beutel. He’s in two popular Blue Grass Bands, The Barleywine Revue and the Rusty Cleavers. One of his talents is that he plays multiple instruments at once, including the banjo and harmonica. He was raised in Rhode Island and relocated to Tacoma in 2011, where he plays music locally and nationally on a full time basis.

The show kicks off with Forest talking about the decision to move west and joining his friend’s blue grass band playing the banjo, and quitting his day job to take on playing music full time. The guys also in talk about seeing Forest in concert at The Valley, where he was singing and playing the banjo, harmonica, snare, bass, and hi hat.

They then dive into his accomplishments and venues he’s played around town, including The Valley, monthly shows at The Swiss, and other places like B Sharp coffee house. He also talks about playing festivals like the Blue Grass festival that started in Tacoma and the other bands he plays with like Rusty Cleavers and recording at the Mountain House.

At the halfway mark talk turns to places they like to eat in Tacoma including The Hub and the great Asian and Italian places around town. Chat then dives into the losses of idols like Prince, Muhammad Ali and Lemmy.
