After a discussion on how to pronounce inaugural, they chat about marriage and Rusty tells the guys about his new restaurant bar in Tacoma, The Church Cantina, located at 54th on South Tacoma way. Rusty explains it as a “dark, sexy bar with kick ass food” that serves Cuban style food, how they decided to choose serving that type of cuisine, and his chef’s history in the Tacoma area.

15:10 – Rusty explains how he’s taking a hands off approach in the kitchen at the bar, allowing his chef to take control of developing the menu, and how they ended up deciding on the location on South Tacoma Way. The guys chat about mohawks, shaved heads, and the times they tried the mullet type hairstyle. Scott then opens the conversation up to the type of hair style the guys would choose if they had the ability to pick any of the styles out there.

30:24 – Rusty tells the guys about the entertainment for people they’ll have at The Church Cantina, the days they’ll be closed, the menu their chef wrote up, and Jeff’s recent fender bender on 167. Rusty shares his accident/hit and run a few months ago on 1-5 and his experience he had with the police officer after it happened. The show kicks off with Brogan admitting to stealing some of Justin’s BNB, Justin discussing setting up his man cave at his new house, co-working spaces in Tacoma, and what’s going on with this year’s Arts on the Ave. Brogan discusses his new idea for a band name and then they head down to Art on The Ave where they first talk to Liz Wilcox from the Hilltop Artists Glass Blowing. She discusses what Hilltop Artists is and what they do to benefit kids and teens in the community to help keep them out of trouble.

14:42 – The guys stop by Crown Bar, a local bar that has been on Diners and Dives, the guys call out Guy Fieri and express what they love about the bar. They then head to Mary Mart to discuss the stores want to destigmatize cannabis, and Rusty’s new restaurant on 54th by the Airport Tavern in Tacoma, The Church Cantina.

24:33 – Steve Dunkelberger is the next person they run into. The show kicks off with Brogan chatting about his wakeup call that day and Kozar tells the guys about his con experience and being floored his very first night at the con. They also discuss Nuclear Cherries, the cut in number of parties and the change from KY Wrestling to KY Twister this year.

15:55 – The guys discuss panels they’ve been to in the past and registering each year to support the convention, even if they don’t go to the panels. Scott promotes volunteering and reminds people that they can always volunteer if they’re not satisfied with the convention and that’s it’s solely ran by volunteers.

25:08 – At the halfway point Rusty joins the team and Kozar provides a safety tip for con attendees - you should never ask anybody at con to smell their fingers. Rusty discusses his Thursday night with Kozar philosophizing and drinking. He also talks about his favorite Norwescon memories and they warn listeners about hot tubbing it at the convention.
41:48 – Brogan talks about one of his favorite moments where he was welcomed into the con community, getting sold in the slave auction, and they also chat about dressing in character for the con. Talk then goes back to early parties and the experience for people that aren’t con goers that have rooms in the party wing.

This episode comes to a close with Kozar talking about being involved in LARPing and him and his friends putting together their own LARP with plans of having the first live event in September. He talks about documenting the LARP, creating the rules and regulations, the opportunities for people to make their own house and the amount of people in the area that are interested in LARPing.

• Volunteers | Norwescon — Norwescon is run entirely by volunteers. Each year, over 250 people generously give of their time in order to make Norwescon the best it can be for its members and participants. Volunteers are the backbone of the convention, from those of us who donate our time year round to those of you who lend a much needed helping hand for a couple of hours at the convention. Whether that is watching the doors at the Masquerade, helping out at the Registration Desk, or manning the Cloak Closet, we need that help.

The show kicks off with the guys talking about how long they’ve been attending the convention. Calvin tells about going since age 18 and Scott talks about also volunteering at the convention. Discussion then goes to QR codes and the different ways people are using them with marketing. Brogan then shares that he’s been going to the con for 22 years and Rusty a total of 20.

14:28 – The guys discuss the different types of panels that are offered at the convention in addition to the activity workshops that include sward and shield fighting and glass fusing. Brogan covers what the average cost is for attending and getting a hotel room for the weekend. He then dives into how important attending the convention over the years has been for him and they then cover Dr. Ricky, a previous guest on the podcast that has participated in Norwescon panels in the past.

27:23 – Scott talks about being a part of the convention staff and what happens during the monthly planning meetings. They then discuss where Rusty disappeared to and Brogan then turns the conversation to his favorite memories about the con. Talk then goes to the art room where people can bid on art submitted to the convention, parties during the early years of the convention, and how they have changed over the years with LCB rules that mandate how parties can be held.

45:15 – Justin and Scott talk about visiting Camp Bar in Tacoma on Saint Patrick’s Day and doing s’mores at their table. They reminisce about other things they did there before it became Camp Bar, including many comedy shows, watching Justin on Wheel of Fortune, and the roasting of Brogan on his birthday. Rusty also returns and they chat about how much each of them have had to drink so far that day.

Fear and Loathing 1 comes to an end with Rusty talking about the interesting conversations he’s had with people at the convention, including a lady explaining to him how a house cat could beat him in a fight and people that believe in ferries. Brogan talks about the earlier days with vampires in the masquerade and the time him and his sister signing up for the slave auction.

They’re back!!!

After taking some time to re-coop the guys are back and better than ever! This season they’re also joined by Justin, the newest member of the podcast!!

They kick off this season with none other than comedian Rusty who has been with them from the start. He first joined them on episode 1 then came back on episode 49!! The show kicks off with an introduction of Justin and how Brogan, Justin, and Rusty first met 20'ish years ago. They reminisce about Norwescon and the great debate on what play Justin and Brogan were in when they were still in school. Brogan also introduces his sister to the show with a quick call to confirm what play the guys were in together, which turned out to be The Hobbit. They also discussed their beards, skinny jeans, and what else they’ve been up to during their break.

16:43 – Rusty talks about his podcast Rated 80’s and his new dating life. They discuss roommate arguments over cat videos posted online then dive into their fascination with drones. A quick turn to men getting pedicures with their significant others, fish pedicures, and back to drones. Talk then dives deeper into different types of drones on the market including ones that can go as far as Tacoma to Port Angeles.

At the halfway mark, discussion goes to suspended reality and the appreciation of production value of videos online. They talk about childhood scavenging for adult magazines and after a quick drink break, Rusty dives into his 17 year comedy career and his last show at The Airport Lounge in Tacoma. He then discusses how he got into comedy.

47:24 – Rusty talks about the ups and downs of performing then they discuss comedy in Tacoma and how it’s changed over the years from a violent place to live to a place with good food and entertainment. There is also a small debate over whether the Tacoma park is known as ‘Wright’ or ‘Wrights’ Park, which a Google search sided with those that pronounced it as ‘Wright’ Park.The show comes to an end with chat about ‘Gorilla’ Comedy where comedians hijack karaoke by paying the karaoke DJ $5 for a song and then try see how long they can drag out the performance before the DJ shuts them down. Rusty tells the team where they can find him online and the guys give a shout out to Wizards Keep Games in Renton.
